Why Panasonic Is a Top Choice for the Shore

Panasonic keeps winning consumer awards in NZ because they build features that actually solve local problems, like salt air and indoor allergies. Here is what that means for your home.

Air Quality

24/7 nanoe X air purification — it runs even when you are not heating

nanoe X is not just a filter. It is active technology that neutralises viruses, mould, bacteria and allergens. It runs independently around the clock, even when the heat pump is off. If someone in the house has bad allergies, this is the brand you want.

North Shore

Blue Fin coating — stops salt air eating the outdoor unit

Most heat pumps struggle with North Shore salt air. Panasonic applies Blue Fin anti-corrosion coating to the outdoor unit as standard on the Aero Z range. It stops the salt from breaking down the heat exchanger fins and keeps the unit running efficiently for years.

Airflow

Heat reaches the far end of the room, not just directly under the unit

AEROWINGS uses dual flaps to push warm air further into the room. In an open-plan Takapuna lounge, you feel the heat at the far end instead of it pooling near the unit. That is the difference in a large room.

Running Cost

You are not paying to heat an empty room

The built-in ECONAVI sensor sees when the room is empty and automatically drops the output. If you leave the lounge to make dinner, it backs off. You get 3 to 5 units of heat for every 1 unit of electricity used on top of that.

Control

Turn it on before you leave work so it is warm when you arrive home

Every current Panasonic has built-in wifi and the Comfort Cloud app. Set a schedule, control it from your phone, or check what it cost to run last week. Works across high wall and ducted systems with up to 8 independent zones.

Reliability

Keeps heating properly on the coldest July nights

Panasonic's T-CAP technology maintains full output when outdoor temperatures drop below zero. Tested down to -15 degrees outside. On a cold North Shore night when you actually need the heat, these units do not back off.

Rough Pricing So You Know What to Expect

Every install is different, but these are typical ranges for supply and installation on the North Shore in 2026. Your free quote will give you a fixed price for your specific home.

$2,000 – $4,200
High Wall, Single Room

RZ Series or Aero Z, supply and install. This covers a back-to-back install where the outdoor unit sits directly behind the indoor one. Longer pipe runs are priced at quote time. No surprises.

$6,000 – $14,000
Multi Room

One outdoor unit, multiple indoor heads. Price varies by number of rooms and pipe run length. We price each job individually at quote time.

$8,000 – $20,000
Ducted, Whole Home

Fully hidden in ceiling or floor. Price depends on home size, number of zones and access for ducting. Most popular for new builds and full renovations.

For a full breakdown see our heat pump installation cost guide. The Warmer Kiwi Homes subsidy can reduce the high-wall cost significantly if you qualify.

How We Install (The Craig Standard)

1

The room assessment — we don't just drop a box on the wall

We look at your ceiling height, insulation and which way the room faces. On the North Shore we also check boundary noise rules so you don't get a complaint from the neighbours, and salt air exposure so the outdoor unit goes in the right spot.

Room size and ceiling height

Determines the kW you actually need, not the closest bracket size.

Insulation and orientation

A north-facing, well-insulated room needs less capacity than a south-facing room with single glazing.

Indoor unit position

Affects whether the heat reaches the whole room or just the end nearest the unit.

Outdoor unit placement

Boundary noise rules, airflow clearance and salt air exposure on North Shore installs.

2

The install itself

Craig holds an EPA Refrigerant Handling Licence. No shortcuts on the refrigerant side. A registered electrician handles all wiring. We don't leave until we have walked you through the Comfort Cloud app on your phone so you can control the heat from anywhere. Every install is backed by a 12-month workmanship guarantee on top of the 5-year Panasonic warranty.

3

Support for life — we look after our own

Most installers disappear once the job is done. We don't. We handle every service and repair for our own customers. Whether it's the annual service to keep your warranty valid or a repair five years down the line, you call us directly. We only look after the units we installed.

Could You Pay as Little as $400 for Your Panasonic?

The Warmer Kiwi Homes grant covers up to 90% of the cost, capped at $3,450. Most eligible homeowners pay just $400 to $700 out of pocket. Craig is a registered provider and handles all the paperwork. Takes 2 minutes to check your eligibility.

Panasonic Installation FAQ

Which Panasonic model is right for my room?

For most rooms the RZ Series is the answer. It has nanoe X air purification and wifi built in at a reasonable price. If you have a large room, want the best airflow, or want Blue Fin corrosion protection on the outdoor unit, step up to the Aero Z. We assess the room first and tell you exactly which model fits before you commit to anything.

What is nanoe X and do I actually need it?

nanoe X is Panasonic's air purification technology. It generates nano-sized particles that actively neutralise viruses, mould, bacteria, allergens and odours. It runs 24 hours a day, even when the heat pump is not heating or cooling. If anyone in the house has asthma, allergies or you just want cleaner indoor air, it is worth having. Every current Panasonic model includes it.

How long does the install take?

A standard high-wall Panasonic install takes a few hours. Multi-room systems usually take a full day. Ducted systems take one to two days depending on the size of the home. We confirm the timeframe when we come out for the quote.

Do I need council consent?

Usually not. Heat pump installation is a permitted activity under the Building Act. The main thing to check is how close the outdoor unit ends up to your boundary, because noise rules apply. We check your site at quote time and flag anything before we start.

What warranty does a Panasonic come with?

Panasonic offers a 5-year parts and labour warranty on residential heat pumps in NZ. If the unit develops a fault in that time, the repair does not come back to you. Our installation work is also covered by a 12-month workmanship guarantee on top of that.

Can I get a Panasonic on the Warmer Kiwi Homes subsidy?

Yes, many Panasonic models qualify. The subsidy covers up to 90% of the installed cost, capped at $3,450, for eligible homeowners. Most people who qualify pay $400 to $700 out of pocket. Craig is a registered WKH provider and can check your eligibility when you get in touch.

Who handles servicing and repairs after the install?

Craig handles all servicing and repairs on every unit he installs. Annual service to keep the warranty valid, anything that comes up: you call us. We don't work on heat pumps we didn't install.

Not Set on Panasonic? We Install All Major Brands

We install all major brands and we are not paid more to recommend one over another. If you are weighing up Panasonic against Daikin, Mitsubishi Electric or Fujitsu, here is the honest short version: Panasonic leads on air quality with nanoe X and has a real advantage on the North Shore with Blue Fin corrosion protection. Mitsubishi Electric leads on noise levels. Daikin leads on the air quality features like the US7. Fujitsu leads on value at the entry level. All four are solid. The right one depends on your room, your budget and what matters most to you.
